It is my understanding that most psychological problems experienced by people in the so-called modern world are a natural response to an unnatural living situation. This applies whether we are talking about oppression, slavery, abuse, living in a society full of trauma (media pushes trauma), receiving trauma at birth (hospital experience at birth=circumcision if male, needles in feet for vaccines & drawing blood).
Drug companies are no different from any street drug pusher, except that the pharmaceutical companies have advertising & health care officials (trusted "authority figures") to back them up.
Instead of psychiatrists & psychologists addressing the psychological issues that underlie a person's emotional problems, they write a prescription.
